Certificates of Approval
The Environmental Protection Act (EPA) requires Certificates of Approval (C of A) to be issued for any source of contaminant discharge to the natural environment, which includes air, water and land to ensure that there is no adverse effect. Furthermore, the EPA requires C of A to reflect alterations to processes or rates of production and for the construction, alteration, or extension of any plant structure, equipment or mechanism that emits a contaminant to the environment.
Terrapex routinely prepares and submits C of A on behalf of our clients to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and can help streamline the process through direct liaison with government agencies to obtain approval on your behalf. Applications for C of A include the following:
|

|
- Provisional Waste Disposal facilities, such as for the temporary containment and treatment, of various wastes generated at a site;
- Waste Processing C of A for the treatment of soil and associated C of A for air emissions;
- Air C of A for stack discharges from an industrial facility, HVAC units over a certain size, paint spray booths, scrubbers, and dust control units and other sources;
- C of A for oxygen release compounds (ORC) added to groundwater as a remediation technique for organic contaminated groundwater; and
- C of A for Industrial Sewage Works in accordance with Section 53 of the Water Resources Act.
Additionally, Terrapex reviews current C of A as part of compliance audits and historical searches / Phase I ESAs.
