Facility Decommissioning

Decommissioning of an industrial facility is a multi‑faceted project which requires strong organizational and managerial skills as well as considerable technical expertise.

Issues which may be addressed include disposal of chemical inventories and hazardous wastes, removal of underground and above ground storage tanks, assessment of soil and groundwater quality, identification and removal of asbestos, decontamination of building materials, demolition of buildings, and remediation of impacted soil and groundwater.

Terrapex provides turn-key decommissioning of petroleum installations (above ground and underground systems), using only contractors licensed by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.  Decommissioning services are conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Liquid Fuels Handling Code.  Terrapex also provides decommissioning supervisory services for petroleum installations, whereby the facilities are inspected during removal and the probability of soil/groundwater impact and the need for remediation are evaluated.

Terrapex can also provide turn-key decommissioning services for buildings and other structures where a significant component of the work involves the abatement of hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead paint, and/or PCB-containing equipment. Alternatively, we can prepare technical specifications for the abatement and demolition work and engineering supervision and verification of the work as it proceeds.
