Environmental Scientist - Toronto, Ontario
Terrapex’s Toronto office is seeking to hire Environmental Scientists to become part of our growing site investigation and remediation team.
The successful candidates will be involved as a junior or entry-level consultant in a variety of projects for the public and private sector. The work will include conducting Phase One and Phase Two Environmental Site Assessments, supervising contractors, undertaking facility decommissioning and soil and groundwater remediation programs, conducting environmental management programs (including air, water and soil vapour sampling), data interpretation and analysis, and reporting.
All work assignments require wearing personal protective equipment in adhering to Company and Client Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
Candidates will need to have:

Practice Area Manager, Geotechnical Investigations - Toronto, Ontario
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, and goal-oriented individual to take on a leadership position within our Geotechnical Service Line, as the Manager of the Geotechnical Investigations Practice Area. Our geotechnical group currently consists of 35 dedicated and talented staff, including 5 licensed engineers and a fully accredited soils and concrete laboratory. Our client base includes leading infrastructure GCs, major landowners, and top-tier developers in the GTA and Ottawa, a variety of government and related agencies, commercial/industrial landowners, construction companies and architects/engineers. We are leaders in in-situ testing, precision monitoring and ground improvement technologies.
The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of geotechnical projects including both building construction and infrastructure. They will possess a strong geotechnical engineering background with excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills, and a sound knowledge of infrastructure, soil improvement, low-rise and high-rise construction, slope stability, instrumentation and monitoring, construction vibration, drainage and dewatering of basement/underground parking structures. Industrial Health and Safety Specialist - Langley, British Columbia
We have an exciting opportunity for an owner’s Industrial Health and Safety Specialist for a client in Langley, British Columbia. The position is a contract term consisting of 40 hours per week and is anticipated to run from February 2023 to approximately May 2023 with the possibility of extension to one year full-time.
The ideal candidate will have 7-8 years of hands-on H&S experience in an industrial and manufacturing setting and be proficient in the management of high-risk activities including electrical safety, confined space, fall protection, and materials handling all within the context of WorkSafeBC. Duties and Responsibilities
As our client’s on-site safety representative, you will work in partnership with the current staff to ensure a safe work culture, and, when necessary, work with subcontractors to create a culture of safety that ensures that every employee remain safe. You will help ensure that site safety programs meet regulatory requirements and adhere to the client’s expectations for job site safety, which go above and beyond basic compliance. The successful candidate’s qualifications will include:

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• University degree in botany or a closely related field (e.g. Ecology, Arboriculture). A post-graduate degree is considered an asset.
• Minimum three years of experience working at an environmental consulting firm, conservation authority, MECP or similar agency, preferably with at least two years of experience in the private sector.
• Ability to undertake fieldwork in a variety of outdoor conditions.
• Knowledge of the biology and distribution of Ontario flora, particularly plant species at risk.
• Vascular plant identification skills sufficient to conduct floristic surveys. Knowledge of challenging taxa such as grasses, sedges, rushes and willows is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of standard botanical field techniques. Certification in Ecological Land Classification for Southern Ontario (ELC) and/or the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES) is desired but not required (Terrapex will provide training if required). International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification is considered an asset.
• Experience with the collection, analysis, management and interpretation of ecological data.
• Familiarity with environmental legislation (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Invasive Species Act) and policy documents such as the Provincial Policy Statement and Natural Heritage Reference Manual.
• Excellent technical writing skills with a demonstrated ability to contribute to the preparation of detailed technical reports.

Geotechnical Engineer - Ottawa

Duties and Responsibilities
As our client’s on-site safety representative, you will work in partnership with the current staff to ensure a safe work culture, and, when necessary work with subcontractors to create a culture of safety that ensures that every employee remain safe. You will help ensure that site safety programs meet regulatory requirements and adhere to the client’s expectations for job site safety, which go above and beyond basic compliance. As a subject matter expert in safety, the successful candidate has a passion for health & safety, is recognized as a self starter and, a communicative leader who adheres to the highest standard of excellence.
Typical job assignments may include but are not limited to:
- Perform monthly audits and inspections in program areas to include waste, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous materials.
- Complete permitting applications for review and submittal to regulatory agencies.
- Participate in staff and project meetings as needed.
- Conduct assessments of process areas for environmental regulatory applicability
- Perform general health and safety walkthroughs and auditing on a bi-weekly, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Develop corrective actions and documentation.
- Develop policies, training and written procedures as needed.
- Develop risk assessments and safe operating procedures for equipment and chemical use, including but not limited to personal protective equipment (PPE) hazard assessment.
- Maintain site equipment and chemical inventory maintenance.
- Host and/or participate in monthly safety committee meetings.
- Participate in emergency planning and business continuity with Facilities and Risk Management teams.
- Review new research equipment, automated equipment, equipment moves, and lifts, including equipment installations and commissioning of equipment.
- Provide ongoing updates of projects and status to FRL and communicate compliance needs and safety requirements to stake holders.
- Assist in in developing corrective actions and communicating to stake holders.
The successful candidate’s qualifications will include:
- University degree or college diploma in a relevant field (occupational health & safety, environmental and/or safety engineering, safety management, industrial hygiene, sciences);
- 3 to 7 years’ experience with health and safety in the construction industry, preferably with data Centre construction or similar large projects;
- Certification or working towards obtaining (CRSP, CSO, NCSO, GSC-CSC, CSP, CIH, etc.).
- Must have a deep understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Regulation, Industrial Establishments Regulation and related regulations and their applicability.
- Must have working knowledge of and ability to implement electrical safety procedures with a deep understanding of CSA Z462 (NFPA 70e) and the control of hazardous energy sources.
- Must have in depth knowledge of controlling COVID-19 risks at construction sites.
- Familiarity with NFPA, MTO, MECP, and health & safety regulations.
- Additional safety training such as OSHA 10 or 30-hour for Construction or General Industry, 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER is a plus.
- Proficient with management/supervision of high-risk activities including electrical safety, excavation, fall protection, material handling and crane operations.
In addition, the ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:
- Experienced in communicating and problem solving as a team with subcontractors.
- A background and knowledge working with trades such as electricians, ironworkers, pipefitters, etc. (preferred);
- An understanding of the complexities of multi-employer worksites;
- Experienced trainer on construction safety topics;
- Must have strong skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365;
- Potential employees may be required to pass a company-paid physical examination, drug-screen and have a valid class G driver’s license
- Experience conducting construction site safety audits and inspections;
- Experience conducting incident investigations and reporting;
- Able to juggle multiple priorities with ease, welcomes challenges;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Innate desire to learn and grow;
- Collaborative problem solver;
- Excellent written and verbal communicator who understands the importance of timely communications.

Environmental Scientist - Ottawa
Terrapex Environmental Ltd. is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals for the position of
Environmental Scientist for our Ottawa office.
The successful candidates will be involved as a junior or entry-level consultant in a variety of
projects for the public and private sector. The work will include conducting Phase One and
Phase Two Environmental Site Assessments, supervising contractors, undertaking facility
decommissioning and soil and groundwater remediation programs, conducting environmental
management programs including air, water and soil vapour sampling, data interpretation and
analysis, and reporting.
Candidates must have:
- a technology diploma or undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Earth
Science, Geology, or Engineering - basic knowledge of earth science, geology, hydrogeology, environmental chemistry,
sampling and analysis - a vehicle and a valid driver’s license (Class G), as the position involves some travel
within Ontario - Strong interpersonal and communication skills including both verbal and written
